GR1PLUS.DK Help File
Loading in the file GR1PLUS.DK will setup Band-In-A-Box
for the Roland GR-1 Plus Guitar Synthesizer. It will setup:
1. Drum #Æs for the Roland GR-1 Plus.
2. Patch Map (assigned to factory settings of the GR-1 Plus).
3. Startup Patches and Channels in the MIDI Settings
Window.
Thanks to Band-In-A-Box user Mick Smith for uploading these
.dk and .doc files. His comments follow:
The Roland GR-1 has a 4 channel multi-timbral module (drums
+ 3)
and a 6 channel guitar synth performance module. The
unexpanded
GR-1 has 200 tones accessable by the multi-timbral module
and the
performance module, plus there are 64 patches accessable only
to
the performance module. Double these numbers for expanded
GR-1s.
The default channel assignments are channels 2, 3, and 4 for
the
multi-timbral module instruments and channel 10 for the
drums. I
have mapped the instruments to bank 1 tones only, and have
used
liberty for tones not found on bank one, such as effects. If you
import files which access some of the stranger patches you will
hear a more common instrument instead.
I assigned piano=2, bass=3, drums=10, and everyone else on 4
for
the simplest kit. For songs that use more than one of the
Guitar, Strings, Horns, or Melody, they will be sharing one tone
on channel 4.
I have included a more robust kit, but harder to use. It uses
channel 11 for the Melody and Thru channels. This maps the
PATCH numbers (not Rolands, but plain 1-64) onto the
Melody track
which allows more robust sounds and also a 5th seperate part.
The drawback is that the General MIDI patch names which are
displayed usually have little relationship to the Patch that gets
played. I have included FAVORITES which are useful melody
patches, but the names don't relate. Unless you move your
patches around on your GR-1 to where they are General MIDI
you
will have to tweek the melody patch on songs when you get
them if
you use this more robust kit.
You could make a patch map for the channel 11 PATCHES,
but then
all your other channels would be lost.
Have Fun!
